Private duty care (or just home care) is personal assistance of a non-medical nature which is typically delivered in the client’s home. Our clients range from the active adult who is just in need of companionship, to the chronically ill or disabled who require assistance with all activities of daily living.
Under the private duty care umbrella there are two distinctions to the care provided. The two distinctions are Companion Care and Personal Care. Companion care is usually for the more self-sufficient individual who may need someone for tasks like grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housework, or just someone to socialize with. Companions are trained in-house and overseen by Helping Hands, but are not required to have formal training or certification. On the contrary, Personal Care is performed by Certified Home Health Aids (CHHAs). CHHAs are specifically trained, licensed and monitored through the New Jersey Board of Nursing. While being able to provide all of the services that a companion can, CHHAs can also provide hands on care including bathing, dressing, medication reminders, assistance toileting, and grooming all under the direction of Helping Hand’s registered nurse.
Helping Hands recognizes that each and every one of our clients is unique. To ensure we can meet all of our clients needs, we offer a wide array of services, detailed below. However, before we begin any services, all of our clients will first be met by on of our registered nurses to develop an individual program (plan of care), which is tailored to their specific needs. During this consultation we will access the client’s wishes, functions & limitations, safety concerns, personality, and schedule, in order to provide them with the most qualified professional for their unique situation. In addition, once our clients have begun receiving services, Helping Hands will provide regular check-ins and nursing updates to guarantee our clients’ satisfaction.
Due to the individuality of our all of our cases, Helping Hands offers flexibility when it comes to the scheduling of our aids. Generally, aids can be sent out on either an hourly or live-in basis. Hourly services are billed by the hour and are arranged for the time of day where care is needed the most. Live-In services are where an aid actually lives with the client around the clock. In this circumstance, our aids will be there for the client through all hours of the day, however with consideration for the aid’s personal needs (meals, rest, etc.) and state and federal labor laws.
In some cases our clients may require assistance outside of the home such as in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital. Helping Hands can provide services in these environments and is willing to work these facilities in developing the suitable combination of services from both parties.
